Journeys & Homecomings
Journeys & Homecomings brings together three works that explore movement through landscapes—both physical and emotional. Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Idyll evokes a world of pastoral beauty and reflection, while George Karpasitis’s What These Ithakas Mean draws inspiration from the enduring story of Odysseus and the journey toward Ithaca, inviting us to consider how our destinations shape the journeys we take to reach them.
At the center of the program, Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 takes us on a journey of its own—from the mysterious sounds of nature and the energy of youth through moments of struggle, tenderness, and triumph. Together, these works remind us that a journey is rarely just about where we are going. It is also about what we encounter along the way, what changes within us, and what it means to finally come home.
