Leon Fine (Board Member)
Dr. Leon Fine is Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Medicine at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He is currently Director of the Center for the Arts and Humanities in Medicine, Center which he established. In this role he oversees its constituent Programs: Musical Arts and Musicians Ensemble; Visual Arts; Food Lore and Culture; Philosophy and Ethics in Medicine; Internet Health and Society; History of Medicine; Living Archive; Narrative Medicine. As a graduate of the University of Cape Town, South Africa, he has held leadership positions in academic medicine sequentially in Tel Aviv, New York, Los Angeles, London and Los Angeles over the past 5 decades, including serving as Chair of two departments and Dean of Faculty in London. He is a Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Fine is a bibliophile and collector of the book arts and fine printing and of post-war and contemporary artworks. He is a member of the Grolier Club (NY) and the International Association of Bibliophiles (Paris). He is a friend of the NY Philharmonic and Carnegie Hall and a subscriber to the Los Angeles Philharmonic. His interest in chamber music was nurtured for many years at the Wigmore Hall in London. In the past he was an amateur cellist.
